Once upon a time we blogged semi-regularly. Then we had a kid, and we wrote a few posts a year. Then we had a second kid and that was that. No blog posts.
Apparently, some of you are still out there reading this blog and finding your way here via searches for “Jang Seeder” and “spigariello.” Thanks for reading! We are going to give it another try, the semi-regular blogging thing. Kid number 2 is four now, and we sometimes can sit at a computer and do stuff for a few minutes.
So, what do you want to know? We’ve been doing the small, direct-market vegetable thing for 12 years now. We sell primarily to restaurants in the Seattle area, through a ~300 member CSA, and at our honor-system farmstand. We grow about 20 acres of vegetables: all the usual suspects, plus a disproportionate amount of radicchio, our favorite crop.
So… should we blog again? Or is Instagram all we need these days?
I’m still here!!!
Please blog. Dont use instagram.
Yes to the blog!

I do enjoy your blog! Wishing you had a West Sound outlet, or a way to beam iver a small crate of radicchio.
The problem is loving Italy, isn’t it? I was there in September, and fell in love again. Pienza! I long for an apartment there! My new perfect spot. Other than Herron, where I am actually am!
Happy end of farming season and much anticipated break and renewal! Where will you go? Austria is really good in winter!!! O force, Livorno en Italia? Children can learn much in another culture; I wish I’d taken ours out more often!
I am here in MN
I’m still here! And I’d read whatever you post. I learn a lot from you and find much to think about. I’m afraid I rarely check instragram (nor is there much room for thought, as far as I can tell.)
I’m here. I read (and will read) whatever you post. I always find it interesting. I’m afraid I rarely check Instagram.
Your blog is cool and inspiring please do it!
Enjoy your blogs, from Riverside Calif
Hi to both of you Please keep blogging and keep me posted on all the activities at the farm. I really enjoyed your posts. Happy Christmas Regards Bruce Mortlock at Canberra Australia.
Very funny! I just found your blog searching for more info on “spigariello” … which I also get from Seeds from Italy. That was a very good blog post (https://localrootsfarm.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/spigariello-a-botanical-mystery/). Did you ever find out more regarding your question as to whether spigariello is really a broccoli? Blooging is indded time consuming (I should know: I use to do it quite a bit). I don’t Instagram but – at least for now – I facebook quite a bit. But I am going to go through your past entries. Thanks for keeping the blog online!
