Hello friendly farm followers!
It sure has been a long time since we last posted anything here. It was before COVID, in fact. It’s astonishing to think about how much has changed in these past 2+ years. Back in 2019, we were farming more than 15 acres and over 60% of our sales were to local restaurants. Obviously, COVID put a dent in that business plan, what with so many restaurants going out of business, going on pause, pivoting to a different business model. By April of 2020 we realized we needed to make a big pivot as well. So we adjusted our planting plan and enlarged our CSA to make up for what we thought would be lost income from restaurants. Later that year, we also closed our honor system farm stand (partially because of theft, partially lack of parking, and partially because at the time it we didn’t know if handling cash would get us COVID).

We really, really love the farmstand. But it was time to make some changes and move in a different direction. Not long thereafter, we signed a lease on a brick and mortar store in Duvall! Talk about a COVID pivot.

Today, our farm looks pretty different than it did in 2019. Our CSA is nearly twice as big, our restaurant sales have dwindled significantly, and we have this whole other business that enables us to connect directly with our customers, like we did back in our farmers market days. Plus, with modern conveniences like electricity, refrigeration, and a locking door it’s enabled us to expand what we sell significantly. It’s been a really fun path to travel these past few years.

AND!!! Speaking of our CSA, we still have spaces left and we’d love to deliver you produce this summer & fall. Check us out at https://localrootsfarm.com/csa/ for more info about our CSA. 🙂
Noooo I loved the lil farmstand! You guys had such high quality starts, too! But congrats on the brick and mortar.
Are you still selling starts? Do you have any available yet or coming soon? Thanks.
